Dennis, I've been on their mailing list since
the internet was invented and have NEVER
received anything from them.

There is such a thing as going to far with
the soft sell idea...

Kevin

P.S. On the other hand, when Xara stops being
a cult, the price will go up for all of us.

The email I got was from "Xara Club".

I have registered my email address with Xara's XX mailing list, with the XaraClub and also I remember when downloading demos of other programs the site took an email address too.

Not sure which instance of the address collection got used for the mailshot - but only one of them though, usually when a new version of Xara 3D is released and the mailshot goes out, I get 2 or 3 copies. I only got one of these - maybe it is to the registered address of XaraClub 'members'.

Xara club list, the regular Xara list, the Xara this and the Xara that list. That's why I come to i/us several times a day, to see if XaraX is out yet. I don't have much faith in their mailing list

The first thing that came to my mind as I read Daniel's posting was that it made sense they'd tell him. He's in London. (He has a greater probability of attending. Does anyone remember if the form for signing up for Xara notices asked for your mailing address? I don't remember at all. Maybe it only asked for email addresses.)

If they did take mailing addresses, then it could be that they figured few people outside of the UK would, on such short notice, make a voyage across the Atlantic or Asia to a Computer Arts Live Show. Why, there are times when I don't even go to see free local tech events that might be as close as a 45 to 50 minute drive away.

So there is still the possibility that Xara was simply being prudent. Or maybe the rest of us will get notice in a few days.

The interesting question now is. . . If Xara X is released on Sept. 15, will InfoPoP and OpenTopic be ready to handle this forum's traffic? I'm sure I-US is bracing itself.

I wonder if they're going to have a drawing for some lucky attendee to win a free copy. That would be cool. Imagine the lucky attendees who actually get to meet with some of the Xara team!

Sounds like fun!

Our thoughts are bounded by words. The quality of those thoughts is largely determined by the words that compose them.

Athena, you may be right -- when you download something from the Xara website (eg Xara 3D) the site asks for 3 details: first name, last name and email address.

They wouldn't know the location from that, but on the other hand the XaraClub does ask for full location details, and I just checked - London in there in my profile in one of the fields, so it is perfectally reasonable to suggest they went through and mailshotted (?!) everyone in the London / home counties area. Or maybe even everyone in the UK.

I just tried posting to the forums using my mobile phone and Palm, but I couldn't get past the choosing Xara X's forum, it kept returning me to the page listing all the forums - so I can't post info on the pricing etc live from the Show unless some kind soul on one of the other stands would let me use their net connection, but I'll post it when I get home if someone else hasn't beaten me to it !

Just been to the Show's website and see Macromedia are there, hope to get my mitts on a reduced price copy of Dreamweaver UltraDev too -- looks like it will be an expensive morning !!

This all sounds good but I've been a member of the Xara Club, live in the home counties and still have'nt received a posting. I learnt of it in this forum.

I'll be at the exhibition on Tuesday so I will also keep the forum posted.
