I was just looking back at older posts and it struck me (ouch!) that there have been some amazing posts in this forum: Ones that have faded onto the back pages but that should not be forgotten. I strongly encourage everyone, now and then, to look back through the older posts and get inspired all over again. Between this forum and the Gallery there are almost 6000 posts! Most of the conversation has been pretty good!

I remember feeling sad when the original forums were lost. It seemed like priceless info was lost. In a short time the Xara forums at talkgraphics.com have gathered enough critical mass that it is almost hard to remember the original forums. If anyone has a fond memory of a favorite lost post - then perhaps they can mention it here and the original creator might be able to reconstruct the tip etc. Good tips deserve to live forever!

    Regards, Ross

I hope to reconstruct many of these priceless tips on the new Xara-X.com web site that will be launched in the near future.

I will be dredeging this forum and the gallery from the beginning and contacting all the autors for permission to recreate the tip on Xara-X.com, where they will be presented in an organised and structured format.

I hope that this will be one of the most important aspects of the new web site... so don't worry, these tips wont be lost for long!!

Great idea, Michael! We have been needing some *structured* and *well-organized* way of finding tips and info for too long. Xara has, so far, done nothing on their own web to provide tips, bug info, etc. - though they have said they will do so.

You have my blank-check permission to "reprint" any tip and comment of mine! I have only one request: please try to implement some kind of tree-like hierarchy for organizing information - it's THE best way. There is a great freeware JavaScript tree-making app at www.treemenu.com - check it out.

    Thanks Klaus,

I'm not entirely sure how I will organise the tips yet, but I'm looking at a few options, and thanks for the link.

If anybody else would like to offer their tips in a blanket fashion then I'd like to hear (it would save me a lot of trouble :-)

X-Men, write in and give our hero Michael a blanket permission to post your old postings! No need to waste his time by making him email individual requests - he needs every spare minute he can to get the new site funcional.

If Michael wants to provide a valuable service by archiving these things in an accessible manner that's great, but I have to admit I'm fussy with words and wouldn't be happy to see some of my stuff (sometimes posted in haste) repeated verbatim in a more 'permanent' environment. Pick up on my ideas by all means, but please give me a chance to revisit the wording - otherwise no!

    Well, see what I mean?

This site has forums. That's what it's for. People post things of a fairly ephemeral nature in much the same way as they talk about things face to face. The fact that it's all archived and available here (and that much of it has the potential to be of lasting value) doesn't alter the circumstances of its creation. Or that even the best ideas may benefit from updating in the light of experience. Now, I imagine what Michael's thinking of is distilling some of the ideas but crediting their sources, which is fine (after all, no-one's got a monopoly on techniques discovered for a piece of software they didn't create), but that's different from simply reposting posts (as implied by Klaus?) that belong here. Given that the whole web is built on the principle that anyone can link to anything (so never mind sites that tell you you're 'free' to link to them!), there's nothing to stop Michael linking to anything here as it stands, but I don't think that's what he meant either. So I'm 100% convinced that Michael wants to provide a service for the benefit of Xara users everywhere, but I'm equally hopeful that he's thinking of something a little more subtle than word-for-word repetition of postings from another site (this one). Helping him to achieve his aims can mean a lot more than simply saying 'OK, Michael, you can repeat anything I ever say and exactly how I said it'!

And I hope this post gets taken in the positive spirit in which it was intended!

Michael - If any of my posts are useful to your ends please feel welcome to use/adapt them without need to contact me first.

When I started this thread I was actually wondering about the old forums and the thousands of posts that disappeared on i/us in the pre-infopop days. My recollections of those posts is getting faint. Does anyone have any particular fond memories of significant ones they'd like to share? I hope so.

In the meantime, an easy way to review old posts is to go to search, then type in "tutorials and/or tips." That's what I did. A hearty THANK YOU to everyone who posted with those words contained in the message

BTW, you're not limited to tips. You can search for people, too, as well as choose your forum!
