I've made some improvements to the Hatcher plug-in, which can now produce zigzags and brick patterns. Set the new Mode sliders to 0 (the default) for normal hatching and 1 for zigzag. If just one is set to zigzag, a brick pattern will be created. Setting both to 1 produces a zigzag.

The spacing must create an even number of division for correct tiling of zigzags / bricks, however dividing the x direction by 3 and the y direction by 4 produces a sort of semi-Flemish bond pattern.
