Mini-Itx Form Factor PC's.

Hello there,

Does anyone have experience using the mini-itx form-factor PC's that are coming on to the market , as illustrated here:

I work on an offshore oil platform in the North Sea, and I have been looking for a portable PC to take out there. I don't really want to lug an expensive laptop back-and-forth. I would be quite happy carrying just the PC (such as the tiny Sumicom) leaving a keyboard, mouse and monitor offshore.

My main concern is whether such machines would offer decent enough performance for XaraX given their "integrated" type of component design (although I do notice that they offer P III CPU's).

I'd quite like an OQO linked in an earlier forum,
but it would probably be expensive, besides, I can't hold my breath that long!

Yes, I do. I would recommend Shuttle.

I can think about possible restrictions...the amount of ports, how many PCI slots, more than one hard drive possible, how many memory slots, overall performance, etc, etc.

The idea is nice, but I think that in reality only a small group of people will be interested.

The Shuttle boxes, as small as they are, are too big for me to lug back-and-forth.
