Hi Folks,
These images are to show how I generally get started on a project.
Figure 1 The first Thumb nail, just a doodle.

Figure 2 First stage with the painted chair layered in.

Figure 3 Second stage with the wall layer painted.

Figure 4 This stage is where the detailing starts. The view out the window and the chair shadow were put in on separate layers. It can be taken to whatever degree; I have tried to keep it simple.

The second set of images are how the Chair was done.
Figure 1 I have left some of the perspective guides in this image to demonstrate dual point perspective.

Figure 2 This image is the completed drawing. All of these images were done in Painter only.

Figure 3 The finished/Painted Chair image.

Greg,

Nice presentation of your working style. Mine is hardly so organized! It used to be, when I was working, doing technical illustration.. but now, with Painter.. it's mostly play unless I'm writing tutorials and then I'm serious.

What's so great about Painter.. for me.. is that I don't have to stick to a plan or even have one.

Now I'm feeling terribly undisciplined.

Thanks for taking the time to put your images together and share the work flow with us.

Hi Jinny,
I must admit that I am probably as undisciplined as thou. The steps discribed in my posting are a very generalized description of the mess I make.
I will make a stab at answering you question from earlier this A.M..
I think that the folks who have interacted with this forum feel that they have established relationships with the other users on the forum and the forum itself. The threat of change is upsettting, those relationships may be disrupted.
I, for one feel this way and most of the time I resist change, even if it is change for the good.
Had I not resisted change, I would have had a computer years before I did.
Anyway you asked and that is my two cents worth.
Take care,

P.S.
Thanks for the resorce list.

Hi Greg,

I understand resistance to change. When things are comfortable, why take a risk? (Or.. when it's working, why fix it?)

The only reason I became curious, really, was because of a few posts here that sounded like people didn't realize there actually are several well established and active Painter groups/forums/a rose by any other name... .

After a while, I began to refer to these collectivey as the "Painter Community", though not all Painter users know each other.. or even know of all the groups existing on the Internet.

I just was told of another group that's using Painter.. today! Heavens to betsy! How'm I going to keep up with all of them?

It sounds as if there may be some hope that you all can stay together here.. but if that doesn't happen.. why not stay together somewhere else? It takes about 10 minutes to get used to another setup and you could carry on right where you left off.. without really skipping a beat.. as long as you all do some pre-planning and are ready should that be needed. Then, if it's not needed, so much the better.

I have nothing at stake here.. making these suggestions except to see you all enjoying Painter and your fellowship without interruption or any other kind of disruption.

In any case, whatever happens, I hope it turns out well for all of you. As for me, I enjoy this group and lots of other ones.. and should one of them change a bit no doubt I'll run into a good many of the same people elsewhere unless they stop interacting with other Painter users altogether.

Thanks for giving me your point of view on the subject.

Jin (by the way, when you see "Jinn" it's because the "y" got lopped off.. I really don't spell my nickname that way
