    Cinema 4D is definitately the way to go if you're creating 3D models that will later be composited in After Effects.

    This is because C4D does multipass rendering, which means that it renders each aspect of the 3d movie into a separate file -- for instance the alpha channel in one file, each light in another file, the surface in another file, etc. This gives you an amazing amount of control when you later composit in AE. Cinema 4D will even rebuild the 3D scene as a multi-layered AE comp.

    Yes, the other major players can also multipass render, but C4D integrated much better with AE than any of them.
