Just a quick note to say that you can also use HTML pages as a desktop background (at least in XP you can)
So if your HTML page has an SWF or SVG file embedded in it you can have vector artwork on the desktop.

My desktop uses a photo from the Cassini flyby of Saturn.

Mine is not very imaginative, but has a fair amound of icons...sigh...
Note: The Xara products are prominently displayed. This is my laptop, by the way, not my desktop. (We are a four-computer family -- two people, four computers.)
