    The August 2004 Xara Xone

Huff, puff, just finished. Cutting it a little close I realize. But there is a lot of really cool stuff this month.

Comments, typo alerts, bad links, or even compliments, are encouraged.

Congrats to Risto, Ross, Paul, and Steve for having your work showcased ... nice insight into the design process for all.

Risto ... I enjoyed your tutorial. Seeing the process gives me a new found appreciation for your creations ... great work.

I loved this month Gary. Good tutuorial, good guest tutorial (THANKS Risto) and I love this Featured Artist Group Show. From abstract to Fantastical to Realism. I really enjoyed it all.

Great to see that at least a couple of you appreciated the effort for this month... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hopefully the many contributors over the months have received better feedback than this...

It feels like a waste of time to have put in the hours when you have no idea if anyone looked at the result.

Gary, thanks for the clean up of the seal pup, and your patience with the edits. Your tut looks great - it's a very efficient and exact way of drawing, which will guarantee that it will look perfect at any size.

Ross - You should put all your designs in one place - why not a "graphics exploration" section on designstop?
Here's a plug... For you who haven't dug deep on Ross' site, check out the site map (lots of ideas, and usefull content if you have a website) - - - http://designstop.com/sitemap/sitemap.htm

Steve - Even your unfinished pieces look amazing! I would have loved to see the Billiard image finished - super idea, and a real challange.

Paul - Your alternative techniques are so efficient, when put to work. The "storm" image is one of my favourites - the water is just sooo good.

    Risto,

Many people look and a few even respond. Most are lurkers. Get a count from Gary on the page views if it means that much to you. I like your work and glanced through it this month, but have not had the time to really look long and hard at it and give it the attention it deserves. Thanks for all the hard work from what I have seen so far.

Risto, old bud, I looked - and was **planning** to email you and pat you on your sagging Swedish shoulders, honest! Good work from all of you! Yes, the lack of feedback can be maddening, I know, I know. But life is harrrrd, so get used to it.

John: Get a count from Gary on the page views if it means that much to you.
--- No, the pageviews don't mean anything to me... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif *sigh*

It must be a cultural thing (or something...) When someone is schlepping in some firewood for the village, an appreciation for the effort (at least) shouldn't be all that difficult, even though you are happy where you are laying. (I'm not sure if that translates all that well... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif)

Klaus: Yes, the lack of feedback can be maddening, I know, I know. But life is harrrrd, so get used to it.
--- Not maddening... I just find it very peculiar... There are so many hours that go in to the Xone every month... and the only reason they are (still) done - the village...

And no, life is not hard - digging up 25-year old bushes in your front yard is hard... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Klaus, I love you too! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

When the fire goes out... No whining!

Also, Gary has been doing his excellent tutorials and workbooks for a veryyy looong time - I would think that he would appreciate some (ideas of) direction. Doing the work is not easy - how about we try to make it a bit easier for him?

Gary, I'm not saying that you are a whiner like me... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif But having tried to put something worthwhile together a couple of times - my appreciation is there, believe me! Direction / Ideas never hurt - do they?
