Another picture done the same way as my halloween pic.

Not entirely finished, but good enough to show. A bitmap fill used for the hat and coat.

Just wanted to draw the eyes under a shadow of a hat, plus the blowing hair...

A line art scan, coloured in Xara. The hat, the band around the hat, the flower, coat and buttons on the coat are all linked to the same colour. So changing the outfit to something different is a snap.

Do you work in pen and ink or brush and ink?

You should try a tablet and stylus. You could translate your drawing skill into Xara X skill with little difficulty. Just a bit of eye to hand coordination. And unlike pen and ink, you have multiple levels of undo :-)

This particular drawing and the halloween drawing were done with a ball point pen. Pencil first, then pen, then erase pencil.

I do have a brush pen which I use time to time, but I also like the look I can achieve with a regular pen. A bit of a scribble in the lines, stray lines strategically placed here and there. Giving it a "hand drawn" look. (so I think.)

I do have a Wacom tablet, but it's more fun drawing on paper. Not necessarly easier, but more real. To have a print from yourself and not just from the printer. A real hand drawn drawing. I like those.

I attached my original drawing, but when I coloured it in Xara, I scanned it as line art. Everything's the same except for the eyes which I erased and replaced with blue xara eyes.

It is amazing what colour can do to a drawing.

It really wasn't modeled after anyone in particular, but the choice of colours can make it look like someone else.

That's why I named this post "who's that girl?" it can be whoever you see.

A regular ball point pen? Very interesting. I like the changes, and it is nice to see your original work. Once again...love that style. So do you use different layers to change the background color? I have got to get back into XARA! Just hardly enough time. Thanks for sharing your work.

Yes, I made 4 layers in this graphic. The "top" layer for text, followed by "bitmap" which has the black line drawing and a stained glass transparancy applied to it. Plus you make the bitmap layer non editable, so you don't accidently shift it out of position. Then "graphics" which has all the shapes and pieces for the girl. Then "background" as the bottom layer.

And the background colour is linked to the parent colour of the "hat and coat." I don't know how long I had Xara before I really got into using linked colours. Very cool.

Plus the fact that the file size of the graphic in Xara is much smaller than if it were coloured in a paint program. Saves are quick, opens quick. I'm happy
