OK, I'm new to XaraX so bear with me please.

Here's my (theoretical) question; I have 3 shapes exactly the same and all aligned centrally on the canvas, how can I select one that is below the topmost? Is there a window that I haven't yet found that lists the order of the shapes?

down the Alt key, the pointer icon will turn to an upside-down arrow, and begin clicking. Each successive click picks the next object directly below the previous until the bottom-most object, then goes back to the top-most object.

Don't forget to use the HELP FILE, its not too bad at getting you going.

Thanks for that, all clear now. I also realise now that it's a good idea to name each object as I make it for easy identification and selection.

THANKS John!! I learned something, I love to learn!! UPDATE: Just tried it, WOW!! Totally cool, I'm a happy boy!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

In case you or any other 'newbie' are interested, here is the keyboard shortcuts. Originally put together by Johnathan Payne (where the heck did he go anyway??) and reformatted and done in such a way that it prints out perfectly without having to change anything. To see the layout as it will look when printed out set your Zoom level to 50%. If you do print it out make sure you choose "landscape" instead of "portrait" for your page print out orientation.

    Have fun! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Once again you have provided a useful tool for those of us still learning the program.

Dont forget the shareware section of www.xaraxone.com

The "Complete Set" of Xara Keyboard Shortcuts Compiled by John Clements and formatted by Jens G. R. Benthien with additional input from Sean Sedwards. The ZIPPED file contains HTML, Microsoft Word, and WordPerfect format versions and is a valuable resource for anyone who wants a one-stop reference.

NOTE: it may not be the absolute "complete" list, but it probably has 95% of the keys. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

This technique is covered in the Xara Xone Tips of the Week pages along with a lot of other helpful advice.

I strongly recommend any new users to read through the tips. You will save yourself a lot of time and trouble and may learn a thing or two.

And us older users can benefit too by rediscovering things we have long since forgotten http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
