Well in my case I have had people contact me about doing commissioned paintings and they've mentioned several paintings from my site they like as a guide. I imagine some of them have several pop ups showing different paintings open and looking at them at one time. Maybe I'm wrong. I know some people will end up inadvertantly putting windows to the background but if they just closed them when they didn't want them anymore then that wouldn't happen. Maybe if they discover 50 pop-up pictures in the background when they close the main window they will learn to close them when they don't want them (joking ... Hey, I'm the pop-up guy and I too beleive they have thier place. I use them here ( http://www.k21imageworks.com/ ), in the samples section because I think it looks a hell of alot neater than laoding those small images in big ugly full windows. I would also like to employ thier use here ( http://kkid21.50g.com/ ), which is why I posted the original question, but the site is on a free server and they already kill folks with pop-ups . I think to view images I prefer a pop-up window, personal preference I guess. I do hate ad pop-ups though.

p.s., I am no web designer, both pages are for personal use - the first for those who I know who might need some web work done and can't afford a pro and the second for a community of southern Ontario ( mostly southern) anglers.

    One Love.

Multiple pop ups... hmmm, this gets kinda conflicting with regards to reasoning for such while suggesting dislike for same...but...I suppose that if your surf'n with a multi monitor set up, and open up some cool worx, photo's what have ya, then having a couple of examples open on the second monitor is actually a pretty handy way to go ... Perhaps an option of whether to view through java or via pop up ? more work than it's worth...? This is an interesting condundrum for sure...

personally I would never even dream of clicking on a popup because they are very annoying.

Me, I've used popups sparingly, but I do use them from time to time. But there are definitely some sites which manage to do nothing but piss off the most patient of users. I was showing one of my colleagues a site that was nominated for the Flash Film Festival, and it used a popup. The only problem was, the popup required a plugin. The plugin then popped up a download request. Clicking no caused the popup window to load another page - which in turn had an ad, which launched another popup - but that popup required the same plugin...and suddenly it was a loop. That was frustrating. The worst was when he tried to close down the windows - they started cascade-launching more popups. Pretty soon there were 21 windows open, all requesting the same plugin, and more opening by the second. By the time it hit about 30 windows (we were in tears laughing by this point) it managed to crash his computer - a PIII-866 with 256 MB RAM. Go figure. Now THIS was a bad use of popups!

But back to the original post, I think that's a fine use of popups - but I agree with the person who said to try and bring the size of the popup down a bit - it's rather large considering the content is very small. The content doesn't seem to fit the general design of the site, either - was that intentional?

some better JavaScript to resize the box to fit - some glossary entries need a larger one, and others are smaller.
