sure thing if you are editing continual tone images such as photos, but I would not do that in xara anyway [which is also unlikely to be helpful to the OP]

if I want precision I might use intersect [or slice] function.... especially as I have no dog to walk :D
I may be doing something wrong, but I think what chris suggests gives you the shape builder tool function, not an unerase; in other words it may work fine with an image as they have defined...
I am not a website builder - if the oval is a vector and you copy it to a new layer as a vector then it should not, but if you copy it as an image then it will; it will become an image if you group...
looks to me like the oval and backgound are an image [which you may already know] and presumably the original oval is not... unless it sits over the original background in such a way as for it not to...

in th original shakespeare portfolio text I think you will find it is the 'sonne of york', but who am i to argue... ;)
what I did was uninstall version 18 and 19 completely - and then reinstall ver 19 with the current installer [uk] which is not german
no longer have ver 18 but don't need both
if it is the servers playing up in your location it may sort its self out before too long...
it's likely not going to be a critical update as it has not been announced, it may be bug fixes

lots of issues have been reported with the magix 18=>19 update, but I thought they had been fixed....
