Scotty, thanks for your reply, but if I understand you, I'd be cutting off portions of my bitmap. I don't want to do that. I want to stretch the narrow end so it is the same wisdth as the other end....

You can SELECT the object, then create a clone (CTRL-K) and then just drag it.
