i'm not sure what you mean but here is a couple of ways.

lets say we select an image and cut it out ready for pasting into another images eg: new background,

yes it is a pain but this is what i do.
if my final image is going to print and it works extremely well in most applications, mags, newspapers etc.

there are 3 to 4 steps...
