A way to apply some fancy CSS gradients like those shown on GradientMagic website. Angular, striped, burst etc. Would be much lighter than using a png image gradient for example on large background.
Something like a dedicated footer layer for websites and anything on this layer would keep relative positioning from the bottom of the page (instead of the top) so even if dynamic content is added...
