You can place the placeholder object named <head> OFF the page in the grey pasteboard area.
One line of code should to it - at least it works for me...

Chrome places the favicon on the page TAB (next to the page title) rather than in the Address field.

There's a very neat freeware icon editor available here which would work well for companion editing.
Xtreme doesn't output to .ico format.
But you can create your graphic in Xtreme, save as png then open it in IrfanView and then save as .ico :)
Try emptying IE's cache and restarting IE.
