  1. Re: Problems with website rendering on a MAC...?

    Looks fine on my Mac.
  2. Re: Facebook changed something today (Thursday)

I have no idea if this is relevant..

Apple's latest IOS release requires that user give tracking permission. Without it FB can't track you across devices, so that may have broken some advertising...

    Re: If artists were architects..

Wow what an awful viewpoint. We had no idea what your thoughts were before because you didn't post them - probably a good thing.

We are all "riding on the tails" of others and I am astounded that...
  5. Re: Discussion on different images on different variants

Most users naturally use phones in a portrait orientation. It is the more natural use of a phone because holding it that way is safer and ideally we can design a website that can be operated in that...
  6. Re: Discussion on different images on different variants

Yes, but I put the general context of why different images for mobile can be important and desirable. That is not technology-specific.

That's not a good assumption to make, or a desirable...
  7. Re: Discussion on different images on different variants

Well if you have a large image ( pixel size ) for desktop, using one half that size ( in pixels ) could give you 1/4 of the MB payload. A cropped image may be far better for that format and the...
  8. Re: Discussion on different images on different variants

I think there is some confusion here, or I may be the confused one.

If I understand correctly Bill is talking about a conversation with non-Xara users.

There are three techniques that may be...
  9. Re: looking for a way to animate 16 png files, crop too, swiftly in Xara designer

I made my primary living from Flash and I would not class myself as a professional animator like you. Flash was used by a lot of professional animators in it's time and I made several Apple IOS...
  10. Re: looking for a way to animate 16 png files, crop too, swiftly in Xara designer

In the olden days I would often do stuff like this with flash.

Looking at the animation made by hand drawn I would use the end frame still to start with and make it a static background plate...
  11. Re: Tasty little bit of computer generated animation.

Great links - thanks for posting them! Impressive work.

As for the processing power they use a lot. People have 35 core CPU cards and may even use render farms.

Re: Incorporatring PHP into Xara website

I don't agree with this assessment as bullying at all. They specifically told you that you would incur extra charges if the current PHP level was not changed.

I don't understand why you would see...

Re: Incorporatring PHP into Xara website

What fasthosts are saying is (in essence)..

Your web hosting includes PHP. It includes PHP whether you use it or not. We will not check if you use it, we don't care if you use it but it is there...

Re: Incorporatring PHP into Xara website

You don't need to use PHP with Xara.

You DO need to change your PHP version even if you don't use it otherwise you will be charged.

Re: Incorporatring PHP into Xara website

You are completely misunderstanding the communication.

They will only charge you if you remain with the outdated version of PHP currently enabled on your webhost. If you change the version of PHP...

    Re: How many cores

I think there's some problems with the analysis in this thread.

For a program to be able to utilise multiple cores it must be written to utilise multiple concurrent threads of execution that can...

Re: One seriously cool bit of design

There is a spectrum for design.

The bike has a pleasing form and perfectly performs the function of a bike.

There are many ways for form to follow function and the design of this bike does not...

Re: One seriously cool bit of design

It's interesting the resistance to this design because I was, and am, seriously impressed by it - mostly because of the aesthetics rather than anything else.

In terms of it being uncomfortable, as...
