  1. Re: More grunge!

I was kidding about the offensiveness, as far as I can recall.

Stygg has always been an upright guy.

Let's hit the Forward button again.

  2. Re: Use of tile in composition

    Cool!

I must confess that regularly I use Photoshop and its Offset command to turn an image "inside-out" and then correct any flawed parts at the center.

    There's also Corel Painter's DEfine...
  3. Re: Use of tile in composition

    Hi Spitsoor—

Wow, I barely remember the tutorial! Glad to see some fresh posts here!

Looks good, and I love Mondrian. More structured than Calder. :)

Can you share what you did differently...
  4. Use of tile in composition

Here's what I'd sort of envisioned for this tile...

    90209

...and it wouldn't be a Xara composition without a sports car, eh? ;)

    My Best,

    Gary
  5. Re: Cheeky fairies

That is a delightful kaleidoscopic texture, stygg, and hats off (again) to Gary P. for his tutorial.

Care to post a larger tile of the Xara original file?

    My Best,

    Gary

    P.S. As a...
  6. Cornleidoscope

    Nature?

Here's a kaleidoscopic treatment of a photo of what we call "Indian Corn" here in the States. Door decorations at Hallowe'en, good for little else aside from being beautiful. :)

    It...
  7. Re: Cheeky fairies

    1. It's hardly for a living room. It's for a Man Cave, as I thought I'd stressed! :)

    2. What I didn't mention is that I mapped a copy of your tile to a 3D model in Cinema 4D, didn't draw the chair...
  8. Re: Cheeky fairies

We've generated 53.217 seamless tiles now.

I think we should show how they can be used, not simply posting them.

Stygg, I think your fairy pattern would look just peachy on a comfy chair in...
  9. Re: Cheeky fairies

    I LOVE it!

Stygg, I don't think Tinkerbell has a bustline like that, man.

  10. Re: More grunge!

    You find that?

You're hanging out with the wrong crowd, Stygg! Park yourself right here. tg has the most open-minded, positive, and tolerant tone of most of the forums in cyber-space.

    We have a...
  11. Re: More grunge!

Initially...I saw absolutely nothing blatantly offensive, but now that you've qualified your post, Stygg, you have me looking harder than I should at your piece.

Nope. sorry! It looks like an...
  12. May 2012's seamless tiling Discussion

This was approximately the linoleum tile pattern ni our kitchen when we forst bought our house.

A quick trip to Home Depot and a hundred bucks and an exhausting afternoon corrected this grievous...
  13. More grunge!

These noise layers are getting to be tiles of their own! I thought I'd offer something that's noisy, but also has an organic appearance to it. Put it on top of your design at partial opacity, Stained...
  14. Re: Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

You're quite welcome, and I'm happy to see that a member can put the steps to use in the embroidery field!

    @Stygg—

Here's a layer of grime you can add to your tiles. It's seamless, and sort of...
  15. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

Phil, I just had a play wtih these, and they are way cool!

I'm going to have to do a write-up on Xara Xone on exactly how to use these, and modify them...I'll cull the text from your in-document...

  17. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

@guyke—thanks! I'm doing a final sorting through next week!

@Christine—Your design is a LOT better than mine!

    Good concept though, eh? :)

    My Best,

    Gary
  18. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

Microkaleidoscope uses two tagged colors, both at the start of the color line in the document, so you can make this two tone design any two colors you like.

The above is just a composite...
  19. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

I think I'm very close to realizing a jigsaw puzzle seamless pattern, but me, I'm out of steam.
If anyone else would like to pick up my work and finish it, all power and credit to you!

  20. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

Well, yes, Frances, it took perseverance, too, because these two are jigsaw puzzle pieces—there is no real "background to the elements.

Which gives me an idea; I'm going to do a seamless tiling...
  21. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

Here's one that I didn't design to tile vertically; I copped the feeling of it from some of Alphons Mucha's work, Art Nouveau period in France:

Here's the trick: set up your drawing so it...
  22. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

@Frances: Nicely done, and nice to recycle the Burgeon set, eh? :)

@Antspants: Do not stop what you're doing simply because your patterns aren't all footballs and beer cans! If you're fluent in...
  23. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

    If you can accept that:

1.) The more visually complex the pattern, the more interesting it can be, and
2.) Filters (Live Effects, specifically 3rd party ones) can add detail, then...

  24. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

Yeah, from your lips to Xara's ears, Stygg.

It's much, much more efficient to have a fractal generator within a program, like Fractal Clouds, than it is to generate a billion bitmaps of a result....
  25. Re: May 2012 Tutorial - Create Seamless Patterns in Xara Designer Pro X

    Hi Stygg—

Noise by its very nature won't tile seamlessly, because there's a randomness, an unpredictability to noise, whereas a perfectly tiling pattern has completely predictable elements. IOW,...
