Sorry I am not going to be much help, but when I right click on a .xar file and choose "open with" Xara X1 is listed and opens the file fine.
This was done using the boxed version....

Xara also downloaded the Shadow movie this morning when I opened it. I don't know if it is new or what, as it does not indicate as a new movie.
Can't remember if it is the same as original...

Thank you for the info on not adding brushes, as they can slow Xara down. I will do as Egg suggests and create a brush folder.
I really just wanted the "smoke" brush, as I like the effect it gives....
