  1. Re: iPad: anyone tried storing and viewing a WebPage on an iPad?

Can you mark a Xara website as being a web app? If so you can probably just add a link to the iPad for the web page and it will cache the content.

There used to be a limit on the size of the cache...

Re: When a List is NOT a list.

    That's good.

Better that users be open about their issues than bury them in some sanitised post. I've had enough criticism of my own in my time but I try to see it as an opportunity to look again...

Re: When a List is NOT a list.

I wouldn't expect a post like that from a professional product manager.

Attacking users on a personal level for "blunt" posts is not the way to go.

    Let me help you.

    "This isn't unique...

    Nailing illustration.

I see a lot of illustration and sometimes it looks cool, mostly it is very effective, sometimes meh.

I think whoever did the illustration for this story absolutely nailed it. Clear and succinct....

    Re: Upgrade to ProX

That choice surprises me - Acorn's advice seems very good.

The Magix updates seem slow and poor and the new features are emerging from Xara much more quickly, the version you'll get from Magix is...

Re: Renew or not - The $50 dilemma

I should really have said "Always look at choices in terms of costs and benefits, not price reductions."

The truth is we all (me included) look at things we'd like to buy and try and find reasons...

Re: Please show me a great webpage made with xara.

I don't think we are communicating well and I think I don't want to hear any more details about this, so no more from me on this subject.

Re: Renew or not - The $50 dilemma

May I suggest that your "dilemma" (I don't think dilemma is really an appropriate word here), is a $99 one not $50. Always look at choices in terms of costs not savings.

    I think what you are...

Re: Please show me a great webpage made with xara.

So there is no actual client - you made this as an example?

I am shocked that you imagine that this page would be in any way appropriate to a bona-fide company and is a good example to show to...

Re: Please show me a great webpage made with xara.

The web page shows no company office or traditional land-line or company identifier and several of the promises would be illegal in the UK.

Personally I would have nothing to do with a client...

    Re: Pricing of website

That was the case once Xara created web designer.

Nothing is forever, we have to change and adapt.

    Re: Login when Browsing Posts

Acorn I just said what I have been doing. From my perspective that worked well and there's so little traffic on TG that the daily posts view is fine.

From the perspective of community management I...

    Re: Login when Browsing Posts

I would generally not login unless it was required to make a post. I guess I'm not alone in that behaviour.

    Re: Anyone designing mobile first?

It doesn't matter what you or I do it's what most users do that matters. Many mobile users are sat on the couch watching TV, or on a train and not using large monitors.

    Re: Anyone designing mobile first?

Personally I think it doesn't matter which format you design for first as long as you take account of the limitations of a smaller screen and have a variant specifically to address that.

    Some...

  20. Re: Trying to understand how SVG's use up Power Usage.

The trick is to loop very short sequences and you can get by with low frame rates too.

The flags animation is very effective.
  21. Re: Trying to understand how SVG's use up Power Usage.

I doubt I'll be changing my choice of browser on the basis of power consumption.

Been a good thread to dispel the idea that SVG is always the best choice (though it often will be).

    If I was...
  22. Re: Trying to understand how SVG's use up Power Usage.

SVG is a vector format that uses CPU power to render an image. This allows a compact form of image description that can be rendered at any scale. For example describing a square involves four...

As irritating as these things can be, instead of spending lots of effort to stop it it might be a better idea to spend time considering if it really matters at all.
