I was more or less playing with this over the weekend but not knowing Jquery, couldn't crack it - I was backto popups!.....this works well!

Thanks Acorn - almost going round to where I started with the drop down menus, but the much cleverer Jquery for the pointers.
Guess people will just have to live with pinch and zoom

The nature of the shops and the layout, requires that the shops are grouped together into Categories and visitors need to be able to find particular shops -when...

I carried on with the current approach of using pop-ups as all the original work had been done - if I had to do the site again from scratch, I might well go a different route.
