It worked... sort of. The sub-menus initially were quite far to the right, though. I gradually reduced the horizontal offset to 10 and the sub-menus came within a few pixels of the main menu button....

Thanks, but all that did was to make my main menu turn into a horizontal menu. So... not a solution.
