I can´t get any transparency to show in Freehand 9, not with PSD files with transparency, nor TIF files with masked areas or clipping masks. Does Freehand really support bitmap transparency?

The size that a bitmap has when placed in Illustrator is its print size that you can checkout in Photoshop (under Image Size).
