I also had the same problem trying to import .ai files exported from Freehand 9.0 into Vecta3d so got in touch with info@ideaworks3d.com. I was told that Vecta3D only imports .ai 3.0 files exported...

Yuko, Japanese TT fonts work well in Xara (Win98). Unfortunately there is no way of working with text vetically like there is in Fireworks, Freehand and Illustrator.

I use Xara3D 4 with Kanji TT fonts in the Japanese version of Windows 98 and don`t have problems with it at all.
