Seamless pattern design issues and help
Hello, I have been making seamless pattern files and as I have begun to use them I am seeing a line around the edges of the oringinal pattern causing a grid type line to appear in the overall fill. I am using the tutorial of Gary's. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
how old is the tutorial?
do the lines disappear if you change view to 'full colour' view? if they do then it is a 'bug' in the very high quality anti-aliasing screen rendering, and if it is an old tutorial then it may pre-date the implementation of this
assuming they are sqaure tiles, then ensuring they are whole pixels in size and placed on whole pixel coordinate points in the workspace may help
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
Here are two old tutorials from when I did the XaraXone (before the other Gary) and one for getting rid of the white fringe.
http://archive.xaraxone.com/webxealo...workbook_3.htm
http://archive.xaraxone.com/webxealo...ook57/wb_4.htm

The white fringe tutorial is more important if you are using 256 colors instead of TrueColor as Steve has suggested above.
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
Thanks for the replies! I think this was a 2012 turorial. I have gone back to old files and tried new ones. I am in Xara Designer Pro 16 or 365. the xara graphic looks great. But when I copy to bitmap, use true color, set to 300 dpi, the copy seems to expand on the edges of the tile when compared to the original vector tile. I can line the tiles up side by side and see the difference. I have tried changing the antialiasing, the type file png or jpg, etc. So when added as a repeating pattern this expanded edge gets repeated as well. I am stumped. I must be missing something!
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
Make sure your pattern is in even pixel amounts, for example 424px vs 424.7px
And make sure the position on the page when you create the image is in even pixel amounts.
Both of these can effect the bitmap.
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
you could post up a file - we can look at it and see what is happening
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
Thanks again for replies. Design is 512x512 when clipped. Centered on page. Same thing. I'll try and send a file.

Thanks for all the help! I am hopefully attaching a file! Page 1 the design, page 2 the bitmap copy, page 3 the fill repeating showing the grid lines.

Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
I changed the units to pixels and your image is 682.9 px. I changed the dimensions to 682 and exported a png. See if the attached works any better for you.
And on my computer, I do not see any lines between your repeating pattern. So it could be a graphics card issue.
Re: Seamless pattern design issues and help
EDit- cross posted with Gary
well that does not look to me like antialiasing issue of the kind I referred to
and your designs are not whole pixels- they are 672.9
also I see that the grid lines, and therefore the patterns [presumably] are not alligned true vertical/horizontal
maybe gary will have some ideas - I would need a link to the exact tutorial you are following to refresh my memory
