Grunge Challenge
I don't know about you, but good as the Extrude Tool is, (and I’m a big fan) the results always look brand-spanking new. A bit like a set of new
dentures, slightly and obviously a bit too clean. In fact, pretty much everything produced with any vector graphics program, be it text, cartoons,
diagrams, designs or whatever, looks like this - unless one deliberately chooses to use a” grunge” font or brush, or to fiddle about to get the grungy effect.
So, that’s what this challenge is about; to produce any type of graphic, using any vector drawing program, without plugins not originally included in
the program and produce something that has lost its original lustre, and looks unloved and uncared for. Shabby, grotty, grimy, grubby or just plain dirty,
chipped, cracked, bruised, or broken, faded, worn, washed-out or whatever, as long as it’s grungy!
Saludos,
Bob.

The grungy version was made using transparent clones of the original Extrusion.

I had this scroll already, it only took a few mins to dirty it up.

Teen-age robot-grunge. When in the future, it is no longer stylish, safe or ethical to protest normalcy or traditional lifestyle. :)

Re: Grunge Challenge
Font is AcmeFont.
1. Clone font and apply a 4 pixel outline with the Splodge brush.
2. Remove the fill from the clone.
3. With the clone selected Convert Line to Shape.
4. Select original text and the Splodge and subtract shapes.
5. Extrude the result from step 4. NOTE: at this point my system became very sluggish.
6. Apply Xenofex 2 Cracks Live Effect. Change Settings to Hairline.
7. Clone Extrusion and apply Fractal Plasma Transparency. Adjust size of fill to create small fractals. Change Contone Dark to lighter color and Transparency to Bleach.
8. Clone result of step 7 and change Contone Dark to darker colour. Adjust Fractal Transparency by moving center to offset from step 7. Change transparency to Stained Glass.

Re: Grunge Challenge
This one shows the plain extrusion and my grungy effect, which I achieved by tracing the extrusion and using the resulting shape to apply bitmap fills. Then I used the transparency tool on them. The slime is just freehand shapes feathered and made semi transparent.
The font is Aftershock Debris

Re: Grunge Challenge
Perhaps this is considered cheating, but I used some stone texture from the bitmap fills that came with Xara and experimented with different profiles and transparencies.
