"Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Hi,
I'd appreciate your help. I'm using XDP 16.
As you can see in this screencast (http://bit.ly/2IkIwxR), "paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Is it possible to "paste size" expecting resizing the image?
Thanks for the assistance,
Carlos

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
I have never used Paste Size (I did not even know this existed).
What do you want to do? Can you give us steps?

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
All images shown in the video had the same size.
So the smaller image you see tom top-left was resized using the handles directly.
For the other image, instead of resizing manually, I copied the smaller image, than I was expecting to "paste>size" on the other image, obtaining the same size as output.
However, "paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
I remember using "paste>paste size" before, having image resize as output. This is what I was trying to reach, and I'm wondering how to achieve it.
As an additional test, I created two identical shapes and tried the same process (1)copy > (2)paste>size.
It worked properly with the shapes, which leads me to think there is some issue with raster images. Maybe a tweak can change the behavior from cropping to resizing raster images?
I recorded the video again showing the full process: http://bit.ly/2SYMkc9
Cheers!

It seems to be another "improvement" from Xara: v11/v12/v15 resize and v16 crops.
All I can offer is Copy the shaping object then Paste > Position on the image and finally use (Ctrl+)Shift+Drag to snap the image onto the shaping image.

Paste size This option applies the size of a copied object on the clipboard to a currently selected
object, which resizes around its center to the exact size of the copied object.
If you have multiple items selected when you ‘paste size’, each of those objects is made
the target size, instead of the selection as a whole. So for example if you copy a 200x200
pixel photo, then select 10 other photos and ‘paste size’, all 10 photos each become
200x200 pixels. This gives a quick way to make a bunch of objects a particular size.

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Hmm? It changes the size of the selected object to the size of whatever you copied to the clipboard.
How have I lived so long never using this feature?

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
do you actually need to do that? surely if you just manually resize the object, by entering the value of the [primary] axis of the reference object, it will resize around it's centre anyway ?

A strong point of the original was a batch process to avoid having to handcraft each and every image.

It has its uses. Years ago, i wanted to scale and position stars that appears to be expanding away from each other.
This helps for such an adventure.

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Many thanks you all for the replies!
I have a shortcut attached to "paste>size", so resizing was so easy to achieve:
Ctrl+C then Alt+V(paste>size)
I can't imagine any way to resize (based on other size) easier than "Ctrl+C then Alt+V(paste>size)".
Anyway, I just did an experience. Screencast: http://bit.ly/2T0pmBf
With lock aspect ratio on, I copied the width of the reference image, then pasted into the width of the destination image.
It works for a single image, but to multiple selected images the destination width is applied to the group.
And using my old method "Ctrl+C then Alt+V(paste>size)" I could batch change dozens of images at once.
I'm sad :( with the so-called "improvement":

By pasting size raster images being croped doesn't make sense. I can't see usage for that, but how I'm start missing the image resizing. Could we ask "dear xara" to review it non-sense behavior?

yes I'm aware of that, I use it a lot myself... I was refering to your:
Quote:

which is also not batch friendly, and longer than it need be ;)
what xara should have done, as with many of these changes, is kept the old way of doing it as well as the new... added a 'paste crop size' option instead of just commandering an existing option that was so useful to many

Would a Mod move this Thread to the (Oh) Dear Xara forum please.

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Hi,
I opened a support ticket with Xara/Magix, and I'm updating you about the issue.
I recorded a new screencast detailing the issue in more details.
Cheers!
--------------------------------
Thanks for replying Johannes!
I recorded my screen showing the issue in details: http://bit.ly/2IvV3P0
Please, watch that and let me know if my point is clear in relation to:
"Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it in XDP16.
Then, how to "Paste>paste size" and achieve true image resizing (not crop)?
In previous versions of XDP "Paste>paste size" resized the image properly.
So the issue seems to be related with XDP16. Maybe a setting tweak can solve the problem?
Best regards,
Carlos

Carlos, you were very clear in your description that v16 now crops the Paste > Size image, whereas before the v11/v12/v15 action was to scale the image to the Paste > Size selection.
Perhaps a Xara staff member you explain the now and prior working of the application Magix is supporting with the request that v16 operation is restored to that of previous versions?
The merit is doing this is for the bulk resizing of selected objects.
At the same time, the need of a Paste > Crop is clearly going to be useful.
In summary, we had the correct action Paste > Size, we now have the action Paste > Crop in error.

can I request a confirmation from Xara that this issue is being addressed
thanks

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
I believe this behaviour was tweaked yesterday, I haven't tested it yet. Will let you know.

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
thanks Rob - I can see benefit in the 16.1 upgrade re tables and fonts, but not being able to batch resize bitmaps will cause quite a few problems
-
Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Great video explanation Carlos ;)

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
While this won't help with batch Paste Size operations, for single images, a workaround is to manually reduce the size of the destination image to make it smaller than what you intend to by paste sizing. Then, when you Paste Size, the image will be rescaled up when you Paste Size.
Not an ideal solution, but until this is fixed, it's one way to do it. I am actually hoping this is a bug and not a "feature". It certainly does not match the description as outlined in the help file.
Note: I have logged a technical support ticket with Magix/Xara regarding this issue to see what they say.

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
Hi,
Recently, in response to ticket#2019021917003517 Xara support said:
Quote:
I have consulted the Development Team and have just received an update from their side. The crop issue should be fixed in the next patch (this would be released via an automated update of the system)
I just installed the patch (16.2.0.56957), however, the crop issue remains the same.
Does anyone realize if this fix was addressed somehow, and if so how to proceed to "paste size" truly, instead of cropping?
Thank you!
Carlos

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
it seems back to normal with a designer pro trial clean install 16.2.0.56957 june 5 2019 - maybe there is an issue with the update patch?

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
I believe the paste size option depends on the aspect ratio of the object you are pasting to. If it is the same (i.e. pasting the size of a square object from another square), it will scale it down. If the aspect ratio is different, it will crop.
-
Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
I just checked - that seems to be the case - thanks

Rob, only if a Photo. If a shape with a Fill, a rectangular Paste Size scales both X- & Y-axes.

Re: "Paste>paste size" is cropping the image, instead of resizing it.
was there ever an issue with a vector shapes ? I think not, but cannot actually remember, and the thread is all about 'images' - still good to have that confirmed

handrawn, it was simply that Rob-Xar referred to his assumption against an "object" so I felt it important to indicate there were different behaviours depending on the object type.
