Okay- so I bit the bullet and upgraded (got it yesterday) and so far have been impressed with the vastly expanded program.
There's a common task I need to do with PI7 that I had been doing in another graphics app, which I've started doing in PI7 and I was wondering if I was doing it the best way.
Basically, what I scan in most is cartoons. I draft these in blue pencil, ink over them in black pen, scan them in, and use a magic wand tool to selecte and then remove all the blue lines and marks.
I've tried this in Pi7 and mostly it works pretty well (with RGB color similarity set to 50) but I do find I have to take a few passes at it to get all the shades of blue (setting color similarity too high often selects, and this removes some of the black lines). The only gripe I have is that in the other app (ArcSoft Photo 2000) I was using I could define color similarity by seperate RGB channels (that is, it had sliders for Red Green and Blue, and so I could ask the magic wand to select the "most blue" adjoining colors.)
If I am doing it the best way , that's cool as PI does seem to be doing a fairly good job. I was just wondering if there was an easier way to take all the blue out of an image in PI7 and leave just the black lines and white page.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

It would be nice if selections could include the RGB information, but so far it's not possible. If there aren't a lot of blue lines, you could paint over them with white paint before making your selection, or use the Paintbrush's Color Replacement tool. In the Attributes toolbar you can select a color to be replaced (use the Eyedropper to be precise) and choose white for the replacement color. You can set the Similarity very high to get rid of the blue as you paint over it. Or you can select a bunch of blue lines with the Lasso tool, then hit Ctrl+F for the Fill dialog box and fill with white from the Color tab. All of these methods would minimize the amount of blue you'd have to get rid of for selecting the black lines.

I scanned in my first comic and post-processed it using a single application (PI7) for the first time last night, and it worked pretty well.
Coming from PI4 I love the expanded text tools, as I have a very text heavy script and being able to apply different formatting to different words within the same text object is a huge boon. Also saving to 16 color PNGs is a lot easier...

My scanner (visioneer) has a selection that you can set to black/white...and it will scan that way....
I sometimes make sketches on blue line graph paper and they seem to fade out. It may help.
Perhaps... edit... trace...trying mode 2D or 3D.. and changing to black color might be easier to erase...just a thought
