Do lack of Heading Tags (H1, etc) affect SEO results?
Everything I read about SEO always lists the use of keywords in Heading text (tagged by H1, H2, etc) as one of the components of effective SEO. Xara does not seem to use Heading Tags in their pages as far as I can see. Does anyone know if this has a demonstrable effect on SEO results for websites created in Xara?

Hi gophigure2
The lack of Hx tags should have an effect on SEO BUT the difference over text that is simply large and bold is so slight that one would have a hard time proving it.

Could you be more vague, Drwyd? DOES IT OR DOESN'T IT???
Re: Do lack of Heading Tags (H1, etc) affect SEO results?
There was more but I cut it. It sounded like I was trashing Xara.
Yes it does help BUT if I was in a situation where the target market was so competitive that I needed to squeeze that extra 0.01% then I would hand coding everything.
In a typical Xara built site the Hx tags would be at the bottom of a very long list :D

H1 etc can be added to a Xara produced site if you really think it important - http://board.xara-users.info/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=394

Rather than quote or paraphrase the questionable information from a so called SEO expert, can anyone quote information from a reputable Search Engine business that states they look for and rank sites by the use of H tags?

From Google but it may well be out of date by now.

SEO is in a constant state of flux, a kind of arms race, between the search engines and the "black hat" SEOs. As soon as the search engines find a way of removing low quality sites and pages from their listings the black hats find a way to crowbar them back in again. Rinse and repeat.
Hx tags were abused in the past and their importance as relevance signals has been diminished.

Paul it made me smile as well.
Drwyd it is interesting that Matt Cutts never actually said the H tags would help, he says that multiple tags or H2 before H1 would not hurt. However over use of H tags will hurt.
I know that many will still think that he may have indicated that the tags will help. However as beauty is in the eye of the beholder it is sometimes best to turn a blind eye to the view and concentrate on listening to the words.
