Do 'Smart Shapes' require a subscription?
Hello
Do 'Smart Shapes' require a subscription?
Background
I am trying to experiment with a range of more interesting shapes & arrows... But unfortunately when I click on Insert ==> 'From Content Catalogue', after selecting my country, it tells me that my subscription is expired and that I need to "Extend your update service".
But as a point of principle I never 'subscribe' to anything... EVER.
So does this mean that I can't use XDP's "Smart Shapes"?
Thanks
J
Re: Do 'Smart Shapes' require a subscription?
you cannot add anything from the OCC [online content catalog] without a current subscription
what you should do is download all the content before your subscription expires, but if it has already expired then it is too late :(
you could rationalise this and say that a one off renewal for a year equates to an upgrade of the program, but that is up to you...

Too expensive. Much though I have always rather loved Xara, I simply don't use it enough to justify that cost.

well if you ever do for other reasons make sure you download all the content and copy it out to backup while you can... :)
Re: Do 'Smart Shapes' require a subscription?
shipen, regardless of your subscription status, if you have ever used one of the SmartShapes, it will have been downloaded into your Local Designs gallery.
Some continue to be accessible through the Insert menu (Panels, Text Box, Shape).
Equally, if you had prior versions and did similar, these can be retrieved into your latest version from your local cache.
Finally, if you ever created and saved a XAR file that used a SmartShape, that will be accessible for copying and pasting into a new document.
Second finally, there are a number of XAR design uploaded into TG where SmartShapes have been used...
Third finally, you could buy Xara Web Designer Premium, quite cheaply, use its Download All and link from your original to this cache.
You could also try a Trial version and see what you can extract from that.

I don't think the trial versions allow access to the OCC...
