adding function to XaraLX ?
+ I tried asking this question on the XaraLX development mailing list,
but I think they are more involved with their own coding problems... or
maybe the posting just got lost on the list :-)
What I'd like to do is add a function to XaraLX... it's a procedure I use
every time I use XaraLX... the function would eliminate the need for
entering fifteen or more key and mouse clicks, and, in my original post
to the developers, I recommended it for permanent inclusion in the
program.
Short of that, I looked for anything at all which could produce a
macro or someway to write a plugin which XaraLX would run... granted,
it is still new, and scripting or macros or plugins may all be features for
future versions... but, in the mean time, is there a convenient way to
write such a function into the existing xaralx code ?
Maybe some XaraLX coders frequent this forum, and can suggest
a way to do something like this ?
thanks
Re: adding function to XaraLX ?
Hi Stuseven,
Welcome to Talkgraphics.
Development of Xara Xtreme LX is less than a year old and therelease of a version that has all the features of the current Windows version hasn't happened yet.
There have been many requests for a 'macro' ability for Xtreme and I believe it will be one of the features being considered for development. I'm not a developer so I can't say with certainty at this time.
All development is currently focusing on creating a full function and feature Linux version that matches the existing Windows version, so new features are taking a back seat at this time.

Most development, yes. There are new bits though (look at the text tool, SVGFilter, resizeable colour editor etc.). Moreover, if other people want to code stuff up and contribute it, we will be only to happy to help and receive it - that's the beauty of open source.
If anyone is serious about doing macros and has the time to contribute to code it, please do start a discussion on the -dev list. I know people have already looked at this before and have ideas both on how it might be done and how it might be integrated. It's a BIG task to do properly though.

Re: adding function to XaraLX ?
Thanks for the clarification, Alex. My coding skills are a bit rusty to attempt anything to contribute. I believe CP/M was the most popular OS the last time I did any serious coding in C/C++ :o
