Hello
I have just been trying out the new 2013 Xara and cannot make the eraser or shape builder add to a shape, it seems to be stuck in delete mode.

Select your shape then switch to shapebuilder tool :-)
There are two tools in the fly out menu. Are you using the tool with the paint brush icon?
And if it seems to be erasing are you drawing on the shape/object?
Hello
Thanks for your replies
So the shape builder tool (1st on the flyout) is the original line tool that allows you to extend an object, once you have converted to editable shapes, but now the shape is automatically editable.
The erase tool (last on the flyout) uses a nib that can be resized, shaped and feathered, but only erases. It seems that this tool needs to also add to an object. I cannot quite see the point of the tools.
One that adds and subtracts should be sufficient. A square nib would also be useful.

The last two tools shown in this screen shot are the Shape Builder Tool and the Eraser Tool.
Hello
I don't see a paint brush icon, only the original pencil icon. Actually I only see 4 icons on the flyout
So the erase tool cannot add to an object using all the sizing, shaping and softening options or does the build tool do that?

Hi Mike.
From what I know, PHOTO & GRAPHIC DESIGNER MX 2013 does not have the Shape Builder Tool.
Sorry, I don't have the latest XPGD, so I used my copy of Designer Pro X.
I think you can add onto a shape by creating a new shape, selecting the two and Arrange > Combine Shapes > Add Shapes.
Rik is correct the Shapebuilder is only in Designer Pro X. And for those that do have DPX the shift key is a toggle between the two. whether you are using the shapebuilder or eraser just holding shift will switch to the other and when you release shift you are back to the tool you started with.
