30% discount for beta testers... :D
I was looking at their latest offer of 20% for the photo one. How has been your experience compared to that of photoshop?
I think it's also $39US. Can't beat the price. If I weren't such an old dog (learning new tricks, etc.) I'd give it a try.
it has not replaced my CS2 photoshop - but as much as anything that is because I can more or less do everything I need to 'blindfold' in CS2 I am so used to it, and crucially it has scanner interface which affinity does not
that said affinity photo meshwarp and liquid persona [distortion] are my main reasons for having that program, but you may not need such things
yes rik - what I am saying is that those who were beta testers will now get 30% off the 'proper' version as opposed to 20 % for those who were not
you might get an email to that effect [I did], but it probably depends on how far down the beta route you went
I'm hoping with all the time it's been on Beta most of the issues will have been sorted out.
I think there are free updates until version 2.
I'm buying it to replace my ancient Adobe Pagemaker (yes, I still use it).
I think it's worth the money...
I'm also going to pre-order with the 30% discount.
I was waiting to 'upgrade' my copy of Xara Photo & Graphic Designer, but that meant paying about 75% of the cost of a new copy which seemed a bit much in comparison. I didn't want the bundled software and can live without access to the online content catalogue.
From begin the beta phase I'm involved as a beta tester and I must say that at this point, APublisher will be a good alternative to the competitors.
I'm sure that in the next one-two years it maybe can concurate to Quark and Indesign. The last half year I done many Books for printing with APublisher.
The work is much efectivier then my test with xara.
My preorder I've done last week.
Pagemaker (Aldus, cough) was the first professional layout software that I used. Absolutely loved it. Drop shadows by having a second copy offset under the first.
Adobe are still going with Pagemaker.
+1 for Affinity Publisher
I think some of our long established people could learn publisher and make a book far faster than sticking with Xara.
Absolutely agree.
I have no idea of whom you speak.Quote:

;)
My prediction is this. Adobe will loose out on photoshop, illustrator and indesign in a few years time, not too long. They will however focus more on online products. Serif will rule with their price point, remember no monthly fees. I know of a few of my designer friends that have stopped completely with the cloud version and either gone back to the disk base older products like cs6 or switched to Serif.
Just to clarify and balance my moan about the price of upgrading Xara Photo & Graphic Designer, when all is said and done, the actual cost of buying a new copy is still very good value for what you get.
Aldus PageMaker was the first software I learned to use. I even had 'the t-shirt' which I won at a training event - not through any skill, just the quickest to answer a question!
I'm actually quite excited about the prospect of getting to grips with Affinity Publisher.
Aldus Pagemaker was really cool. Then Adobe purchased it and essentially did what Corel tried to do with Xara, but they succeeded.
Quark was the only choice and they were a nasty company who were openly hostile to their users.
Everybody at the time said InDesign would never go anywhere.
So long ago.
Meanwhile, countdown for the launch continues...

I purchased Publisher and like what I see, especially at that price.
I broke down and purchased Affinity Publisher and installed it and I have looked at some of the videos. It seems well thought out and handsomely designed with a wealth of features and controls including master pages with left and right pages independent of one another. Designer Pro has some serious catching up to do.
Also purchased Publisher. I'm very impressed with being able to switch seamlessly between Publisher, Designer and Photo all within the one app.
Sad to say, but they Serif have done it right. They did not just stick on new features with duct tape. I will probably continue to publish in Xara in spite of its shortcomings because I can do it in my sleep. But Affinity have certainly set the bar very high. I get the feeling that they understand the entire publishing process and have designed a product around that knowledge.
That said, does anybody know how to get a spread to display as a spread and not as a single page?
What, like this Gary?
In Document Setup (right above Master Pages when nothing selected) or when creating a New Document it lets you check Facing Pages.
Basically what Egg is showing
I think the lack of e-pub is a disadvantage, but hopefully that will come through soon
Even better than adobe products?Quote:

I have been getting to know Affinity Publisher. And while it certainly has every feature one could possibly want, there is much to be said about the directness and simplicity of Designer Pro.
That said, Affinity Publish can truly call itself a publishing program. I've just started a new book project and I am going to continue the project in Designer Pro because of the speed and familiarity but after this project I plan to spend a lot more time with AP.
I suggested to Xara a few years ago they create an app primarily for indie book publishers because this is becoming a tremendous growth industry. The current "update" shows how seriously they took my suggestion.
