Text Renders Differently in Browser
I decided to purchase Web Designer because I couldn't eliminate the bugs when using Expression Web.
However, when doing a test page, I found that text graphics appeared differently in browser preview and when uploaded.
The problem disappeared when I increased the font size to 18pts and above.
I realise that I can eliminate the problem by grouping the text, but I want to use the text, rather than use buttons.
I think I must be missing a really obvious point, but it's not clear from the Help function or the Video tutorials.
Can you advise?
Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
Hello BetterBack,
Welcome to Talkgraphics.
Could you please be more specific about which text area has the problem.
The small text using Cordia New font at 16pix is grouped and renders as an image. Is that the text you are talking about?
Fully justified text does not render the same from browser to browser and is not currently supported in Web Designer.
Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
I don't know what negative affect this might have, but the first blank line of your paragraph text (that reads, "It's nothing enigmatic, just ...") indicates that the font is 'Tahoma', while the rest is 'Cordia New'.
Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
Cordia New is not web safe font. You should not export it as a text. WD warns you if try to export such a text.
Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
Perhaps it might be a good idea if WXD warned you then asked if you wanted it exported as an image?
Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
Or maybe if WD warned you, gave you a valid font substitution menu or the option to export as a .jpg or .png image

Nicky you mean something like the error about non-safe web fonts. ;)

Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
Many thanks for the comments so far.
I think the problem goes deeper than the use of non-safe fonts.
I experimented with using just single blocks of text, using Arial and Tahoma non-aligned text.
You can see by previewing the sample file in the browser that the text blocks in smaller 13pt font don't render faithfully in the browser, whereas the same text in 18pts does.
I know I can get round the problem by grouping the text, but that would prevent me from using the text directly as a button, which is integral to the design of the site.
To repeat from before, I might be missing something really obvious but on the face of it, it looks like a limitation in usability.
Re: Text Renders Differently in Browser
I must be missing something because your file looks the same in the browser preview or exported to htm and viewed on IE or Chrome as it does in WD.
Can you take a screen dump of where you are seeing problems?

Sure,
The original Xara file is attached.
Screenshot 1 and Screenshot 2 show the text changes in the browser preview and Firefox respectively.
The left hand side text column and the smaller font blocks 'HOME' and 'UNWIND AS DESIGNED' show differently to the original text.
