Indigo
What colour is indigo?
Is there a definite RGB or Hex value?
I looked on-line and saw different colours - picture attached.
No. I wasn't drunk!
The reason I ask, is that Indigo is the colour used to dye jeans.
So, if it's more like a purple colour, then how come jeans are blue?
Any ideas?

Re: Indigo
there are different indigo - the one you see in a rainbow, and the one derived from plant dye which i am guessing is the one use to traditionally dye yer levis et al - now mostly made synthetically
the rainbow colour in definately on the dark blue side of the spectrum - it is dark blue 'tinged with deep violet' it is definately not at all purple, although some people no more know the difference between violet and purple than they do between hare and rabbit, so you will get a lot of variation in definitions - plus not everyone has 20-20 colour vision
mine is based on the light spectrum, and traditional indigo dye is pretty close
but as a quick visit to wiki will show there are other indigos in general use - such as 'web' and 'tropical' and 'electric' some of which do indeed look purple
RGB value? - it appears physicists are unable to pin down an exact wavelength range for indigo, probably because it is hard to tell where 'in' stops and either 'battle' or 'vain' begin depending on your direction of travel..... so i reckon its going to be a tad subjective - first pick your definition

Re: Indigo
your post got me thinking and looking around and there are all sorts of indigo including 'web-safe'
it does reinforce the fact that values of colour space models such as RGB/CMYK are only symbolic, they are not definitions in themselves, the only sensible scientific definition of colour, additive or subtractive, is in terms of wavelength

Re: Indigo
Well, Steve.
It appears that there is no easy answer.
However, you have answered a big part of my question. Which is that the dye used for clothing is much more on the blue side of Indigo.
