What is cheapest way to share the editing of Xara Designer files with Xara newbie?
Hello
I want to plan a furniture move with my relative, using Xara Designer.
What is the cheapest way to do this?
My relative needs to be able to edit the files too. I was thinking of using a very old version of Xara, but has the file format changed over the years?
I still use Xara Designer Pro X10 (and refuse to upgrade until Xara release a "4K friendly" version), but all my relative needs is to do is the very basic stuff (i.e. Move shapes around a screen)

Version 10 is an older version and if you can find a copy should be a bargain.

Use Xara Cloud. It is quite cheap, being free, for your described task.
It comes with the bonus that your relative can add in Comments and Replies on the Xara Cloud design page.
You can design in v10, publish to the cloud and your relative can edit and you can re-open the amended version in v10. It might tell you it was created in a later version but you can ignore this.
Always keep a Master Copy with a different name elsewhere.

Might be a lot better to go to lunch and take a paper pad, pencil and ruler!

@ pauland - have to say I would do tend to do it that way, unless it was with my brother in law who lives near vancouver [unless he was paying of course ;)] - it would probably work out quicker in the end.. unless the lunch was liquid...

I can't really imagine doing it very well remotely and I can't imagine having someone else arranging my furniture either!
If your brother needs help, I will supply the paper, pencil and ruler, he just needs to provide the plane ticket. Let me know.. ;-)

I am not allowed to arrange furniture ;) [except in my miniscule studio]
I will ask him, what qualifications do you have :p

I think a window would be sufficient in one of the three cases :D

Nope, I'm done with crawling over and under tables and through windows.

OK, for the top position, three small serving hatches and you sit outside and put your arms in the left and right ones and the middle one higher up for your face. I also hope the table has a Lazy Susan!

Trapdoor; round of course. ...and now which corner put it?

It does make me think how overly dependent we are on technology when the simple old ways would do just as well.
Draw the room floor plan and rectangles to scale to represent the furniture.
Print out the floor plan and print out the furniture rectangles.
Cut out the rectangles ( they will be labelled, of course) and place over the floor plan. Photograph and send a picture to the other room planner, together with a PDF of the blank floorplan and rectangles.
Play design ping-pong using pictures of your paper designs.

Re: What is cheapest way to share the editing of Xara Designer files with Xara newbie
i draw my roughs with a blunt 3h pencil - a blunt pencil will draw thick and thin in rough, i am not wasting time sharpening it - i can cover the wall with paper and see everything without the limitation of zoom on a monitor
like me you probably remember the days when a systems analyst would first ask 'is this a suitable task for a computer' ...

AnyDesk, TeamViewer, CloudBerry, there are others. They share screens, so two of you can fight over mouse control on one screen in real time. They're all free for personal use.

Absolutely.
I haven't heard the term 'System Analyst' for a long time!
For those not familiar with the term, it was someone who looked at the 'bigger picture' but generally didn't get their hands dirty writing computer code, just told those poor coders what to do and flung a few flowcharts and diagrams their way.
All of us should look at our computer use because a lot of tasks (and this may be one of them) are best approached, initially at least, with a sheet of paper and a pencil.

I am still a Systems Analyst. I could share some of the paperwork necessary for a design before a code can ever touch a byte but there are not enough trees. I worked from concept to cost to design to code to test to delivery to train to support with lots of other bits in between.
I agree that if it cannot be done by hand, it should never be coded as all you are doing is not doing it faster.
It is interesting to unpick some of the solutions so far, the main one has to be talking.

No, it will be on-going for various projects.
No, I don't want to use paper. It needs to be something that both parties (who live 500 miles apart) can easily modify.
https://cloud.ixara.com does look interesting. Although it seem rather cut down. e.g. I can't see any use of layers... (??)
