Restarted system now work. Please delete thread.
Just trying to think along with you: Did you try to restart the program and insert a symbol again and/or doing so in another/new document to see if it would work?
Cross-posting. Glad it worked. My suggestion came close. ;-)
Not until I restarted my windows 7 did it work. So restarting the program did not help.
