Quick way to softening serifs?
I am trying to recreate a logo for a client who no longer has access to their original eps file. I was able to locate the font that they used, but the logo has much softer serifs than the original font. The font's serifs are pointed and the logo's serifs are more rounded and softer. I can go in and individually move anchor points, but Id rather not go that route if I can avoid it. Is there a quick way to do this in Illustrator? I tried using "rounded corners" but it doesnt work. Thanks!!

Welcome to TG, jbrady.
Without at least a sample screen shot of what you are trying to do, perhaps the name of the font and a portion of the logo would do.

Sorry. Here's a quick sample. The top one is the logo I'm trying to copy. The bottom one is the original font with a stroke applied.

You would need to outline the letters, expand the line only (there's the choice when you choose the expand command), then use an offset path. When you use Offset Path, there is an option for the path joins to be a miter, but click on the drop down and choose Round.

So here's an example.
There are actually three objects, the original outlined text, a white outline that was expanded, then the offset path that was also expanded.
I have uploaded a CS6 example.

BTW, you can leave the text as text (live text). It can sometimes have different/unexpected results, so I usually expand a copy.
In any case, I have attached a live text version.

I think you can get just about the font used in the logo, it is called Benguiat Book. Got it on my system so was easy find. Most of the newer versions of Illy you can leave the type live as Mike states without strange effects happening

Thanks Mike! I followed your directions and it did soften the joints, but now have a wide outline?

Re: Quick way to softening serifs?
Hmm. Looks like there are multiple black outlines.
I would need to see the Appearance Panel opened with that text selected to see what is going on, else the AI file itself.
I have attached another version of the Live Text AI file.
