Suggestion: True 3D Editing
For example, a 3d cube that can be rotated and scaled.
Once 'set' the object would be translated to a set of vector lines
or shapes.
I am not talking about complex textures or lighting, only the ability
to quickly create whole vector objects with proper perspective,
and maybe scene placement.
I know Xara does pseudo 3d, but what I intend
is to model in real 3d, and convert to real vector.
Re: Suggestion: True 3D Editing
Hi Jerry,
Your suggestion has been made several times in the past. I'm not sure any application could achieve the desired outcome.
All the 3D applications I am familiar with can import a vector path and then use it to build a mesh, most often it entails using a rotation, sweep, or lathe function. Mostly useful for making goblets, vases, and lamps.
None of the 3D apps I know can export a vector path from a mesh. A person could manually select the nodes of the mesh that could be a path then use the tools within the 3D app to create a vector. But it would be easier to do in a completely vector application and using lines to represent the vanishing points within the workspace.
In any case your post is here in the Dear Xara forum for the developers to view. :)

There is a plug-in for Carrara which would be the only reason I would want Carrara. ;)
Check it out.

Re: Suggestion: True 3D Editing
Maybe I should have said any 3D app I would use. :D
Mike the link seems to be broken. Never mind it seems to be working now. Daz may have been working on the page or the server
Re: Suggestion: True 3D Editing
Another one was to export Sketchup files as Autocad DWG files, Corel draw could open DWG files and they could then be ported to Xara. I remember trying it, every visible edge was a vector line. For simple things I suppose it would work out but for a complex model it was really to much to deal with. I am rather happy with the output I get from my 3D apps. I try to blend it all together to make one happy family but I do it by combining and enhancing the images with the application that is best suited for the task.
Re: Suggestion: True 3D Editing
I'd like to be able to export DWG from Xara. I'd also like to be able to move the origin point from the lower left hand corner when importing objects from Xara into Maya.

Re: Suggestion: True 3D Editing
You can move the origin point in Xtreme by dragging the square at the intersection of the two rulers to the top-left corner of the page (for example) This is saved in the .xar doc.
But this is off-topic - how about truer 3D in Xtreme?
Personally not my 'thing'..
Re: Suggestion: True 3D Editing
I know you can move the origin point in xara, but the origin point remains unchanged in the exported xara object when you bring into Maya.
Perhaps there should be an alignment function added 'center to origin.'
