Yeah!
Whichever one I go with, the Shape Tool or the Bezier Handles are not going to be too visible, when the icon is on the task bar.
I just didn't want to leave the 'D' on it's own.
Other members might come up with other ideas?!

Here's another idea...
Since there are four products that never seem to have a consistent design these are related themes in fours. Each design is a stylized X as the parent company is Xara.
That is original and creative Gary.

That's really, really, very good, Gary.
Apart from the obvious 'X', the others are very subtle indeed.
I'm still sticking with my 'D' as I'm trying to see which icon I want on my Desktop and in the menu bar.
So, I'm still using the white and green 'D' (with a small change), but did another one in white on a blue background.
I think Xara's Extrusion tool "3D" Icon in the center would be more to my personal liking but overall, Rik, I like your image. It's definitely creative. :)

I just threw this together in a couple of minutes. I don't know if I like it.
I tried to make it appealing to both sexes. Masculine angles on the font and feminine color choices.
But here's my take on the Xara Logo:

Wait a minute. It was missing something. Slight change:

I see your point. You're right. It won't work.
Maybe two heads are better than one. What if we combine your logo and my logo:

And the reason I used the 'Shape Tool' in the icon, is because, that's the tool I use 99.9% of the time when drawing shapes.
In fact, it's the main reason, I can draw in Xara, and have difficulty when I try and draw in Illustrator or other programmes.
The 'Shape Tool' is what allowed me to develop.
