how to create a frayed border of an bitmap?
Hello,
I would like to get a special border effect on my image. It should get a kind of frayed border.
With one of my filters, I can get such effect, but only with included white background. But I need it without background, just like if cropped.
Is there any way to get that effect?
(I use version Designer 7, but try out ver. 9 now)
Thanks for helping me!
Holger

Re: how to create a frayed border of an bitmap?
what you need is an edge mask
here's some i have had lying about
i hope you can use them

Thank you a lot for your fast and friendly answer.
The masks look great, and now I have a huge amount of possibilities. Thanks again!
Could you please tell me if I am right, that the best way to get the efffect I wish is:
cover the flag with any of the masks, select all, and then use arrange -> combine shapes -> slice (cut) shapes?

If you are trying out DP9 you can easily do this with the eraser tool. In the example below I used the smallest setting and a graphics tablet so I could use the pressure sensitivity and just lightly brushed over the edges in a kind of ziz zag fashion.

There is also a way to use Xara's diffuse filter (you will need the 32bit version of DP9 for this)
1. clone your image and use the page and layer gallery to hide the top one (the clone) by clicking the little eye icon
2. select the original photo and in the effects list distortion>diffuse. adjust the sliders to get the desired effect.
3. un hide the top clone and use the feather tool on both copies to blend the two together and soften edges.

And Last but not least you can check this out http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...oto-edge-masks I gave a small assortment of edge masks and did a video tutorial showing how to use the Opacity Mask feature to create and apply them.

i would use clipview
that way youre not destroying your flag image
you can feather the image before doing the clipview and set the edge masks to no line, no colour
you cn get some good effects
try out angelizes diffuse filter too
that might give you what youre looking for
