How can i split up my website??

Hello again guys.
I have come across another problem with my website, as it has grown in size (now at 156 pages) Xara is eating up my memory and slowing eveything down. So i have looked on the internet for a way to split up the site so that it won`t take up so much resources on mu PC. I cam across this site as the best solution for what i am looking http://archive.xaraxone.com/webxealo...kbook%201.html But i was wondering how i would go about doing this if i don`t want to publish my site, i just want to host my site on a USB stick or my Hard Drive. Is it possible to do this? If so how do i go about doing it or is there a tutorial somewhere that i could follow like the Linked site above..

The website i have made is a Music Database if anyone is wondering. What i wanted to do was split up the site into Artists A, Artists B, Artists C etc.... Artsits A would have 50 pages to that website, Artists B would have 35 pages etc etc..

I was going to suggest that old XaraXone article. :)

Same thing. Create separate folders for each section of the size. Make each section a separate website with it's own index file and folders. Then instead of linking to the page using the Link buttons, you link to the physical address for the folder.

There is a way to link to a folder if it is going to be on your thumbdrive, but I am not sure how this works. Maybe Egg or Acorn can give you the correct format.

Gary, the linking you are after is called relative linking. All you add to the link address is <folder>/index.htm, where <folder> is the name of the sub-folder the sub-site is published to. You do need to add the file extension (.htm).

OK. So if I understand this, I have a folder, Cats, and I have created a website in the folder Cats, with its own index.htm, then I would link to this folder as shown in my screen capture?

From what i understand from the link above gwpriester is right in what he is saying..!?
If i`m understanding it right all i do is make each mini website and when i have them all completed then and only then do i publish the site into the folders... Is that right?

Thanks guys for the help. It looks like i have a lot more work ahead of me before i finally finish this music database...Thankfully i realised this now before i go to far into this project :( but learning as i go, so can`t be all bad.. :)

Learning as you go is the best way.
