new Iphone X and Xara
I tested the few websites I build with Xara on the new Iphone X and vertically it looks fine but when I flipped the phone on its side, the webside did not fit within the window, meaning that I had to use pinch motion to get the whole website to fit on the screen. Other websites not using xara were fine and fit every-time. What is happening or can I do to fix this issue.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
I'm going to move this to Dear Xara.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Thank you Gary, for Dear Xara here are the resolutions for mobile and desktop.
Main = 1130 px
Mobile = 600 px

The viewport size is 375 x 812 for the iPhone X. Your mobile page width is too wide for the iPhone X in portrait orientation.
Browser viewport sizes aren't the same as pixel resolution ( which is 1125 x 2436 ).
If you want to have the website fit in portrait your width setting needs to be 375 or less.
Non-Xara websites are either using more appropriate width breakpoints and/or using percentages for their sizing (it's not possible to use percentages in Xara, except for iFrames/placeholders).
To properly support mobile, you either go for the lowest size or multiple breakpoints. Smaller iPhones have a width of 320.
Sadly a lot of people on TG "finish" their websites but don't check them on multiple browser widths where they look awful.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Thank you for that info. I did check with different browsers but I do not have the privilage of pitching out $1300 for an iphone x and this was not the case before its release. Also I use the following site and tried to consider both tablet and phone resolution and come up with a mobile resolution that would suite most, which it did until the iphone x.
https://www.mydevice.io/
I am not sure If I was not clear about my question, The iphone x looks great with my clients site but when I turn the iphone side ways (looking at it at its physical size of 2436x1125 and CSS size of 812x375 this is where the website does not fit the screen.
Iphones in the past and other mobiles including the samsung all fit the width of the window regardless of the size of the layout, this is built into the hardware I believe but the new Iphone did not.
P.S. I would be caught dead to have 3 or more different variations of websites designed, If that is the only solution then I would have to use another software.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Also when I checked my traffic stats from an apple store that I used the iphone x with, the resolution is 414 x 896 for the iphone x.

That resolution is for the iPhone XR.

[ apologies for mis-reading your original post - you were concerned about landscape not portrait - doh!
The 812 landscape width exceeds the 600 mobile breakpoint so you are trying to show a page that is 1130 pixels wide on a device that has an 812 pixel wide viewport - it doesn't fit.
@Gary - why is this in Dear Xara? ]

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Yes with the introduction of this phone this is what happens. Before this phone the iphone X, Xs and iphone 6-8+ would show the mobile when viewing horizontally. What is your suggestion now that this is the case with the new Iphones? I do not want to make another variation of the mobile.
If I increase the size of the mobile to 670px in xara then it supports up to 900px. But what if in future iphone comes up with bigger size screens, this will be an ongoing problem? No wonder people use responsive web design.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Hi Behzad,
This sounds familiar, I'll check if we've logged anything or not but I'm sure it should resize so that you don't have to pinch to re-zoom. If not I'll get it logged!
Thanks
Rob

Even with responsive design, people use variants for different form factors.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Thank you Rob, I do very much appreciate all the efforts you make. The two websites of my clients are in the xara web gallery for their referal to test with the iphone xr or xsmax, they both support resolution of 414x896 but tilted that would be 896x414. Before the new iphones even tilting it on an ipad which has a higher resolution did fit the Main page size of 1130 px perfectly but on the iphone it does not. Looking forward to a solution.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
I just did a test with the xara template Wellness and on the new iphone it cuts it off and the site does not fit. Please see attachment.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Could Xara attend to this matter? It also effects all their templates. My client already noticed it and asking why? What should I do?

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Here is a link to the video. As you can see, the whole screen shifts over and when returned vertically sometimes the screen does not fit and looks smaller.
This problem is apparent in new mobile for iphones and iphone tablets.
I would have to pinch my way to fit it in the screen.
For Andriod this does not happen.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Checked on Galaxy Note9 today, verticall fits fine but horizontally has the same issue.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
@Rob what happened? You said you will check into this?
-
Re: new Iphone X and Xara
@Behzd - good point - your video illustrates this very well. Thank You. I'll await a reply like you. Until that time I'll use a smallest at 700.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Yes Bill, I too am waiting on a response from Xara developers, until then 480 px. will no longer suffice. That means all the templates that xara has made.
-
Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Hi, sorry for the delay. I have logged this with our developers for them to look into. I can't say if or when it will be fixed however.
Thanks
Rob

Can't you make a variant of a size that suits the iPhone X and iPad?
-
Re: new Iphone X and Xara
I can then I will have many variants, before all this my 2 variants worked perfectly. Somehow xara is not sending the message to the new devices to centre/fit the screen. On Andriod it is fine now with just two variants. This line of code in Xara is not working with iphone and tablets. Just got the new apple tablet and the screen moves all over the place until it finally something triggers and then it fits in place.

Your customer doesn't care what the problem is or who's fault it is - they need it fixed now. If Xara aren't moving you need to before your client switches web designer.
-
Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Behzad,
Don't imagine that I have much sympathy with Xara's response - if a customer has issues using the software with a very strategic platform, it should be addressed one way or another as a matter of urgency rather than just passing the details to another department.
This is what happens when software goes corporate and nobody takes responsibility for addressing customer issues.
Unfortunately our customers want solutions not buck-passing, so if you can't use Xara to provide a good solution (I think you can, albeit at some effort), then move to a solution that can.
Paul

I believe that you rely on Xara templates, which is a pity (if they don't work well). In these circumstances I don't have huge sympathy of web designers that rely on templates either!
I'm curious why others aren't shouting about this issue, but Xara should be all over this. Shame on them.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Hi Paul, No I custom design everything. I do not use their templates. I have taken this very seriously and like you said if I was xara, I would be on this in a second and not months. Due to various resolutions on iphones and ipads and other devices it is useless to make a variant just for this instance. Prior to the new iphones and ipads my clients site worked well on everything. I do appreciate your concern.

Well I disagree with this viewpoint because you have a dissatisfied customer that needs a solution that you could supply.

Re: new Iphone X and Xara
Well I can't afford to invest in an iPad or iPhone just to check my sites are working so I agree it has to be a worry for us all.
I don't know if this is any use for testing in Safari for the new generation of iThings: https://www.labnol.org/tech/ipad-use...-string/13230/.

That link is pretty ancient - 2012.
Behzad says this is an issue for the newer iPads and phones and I guess it's related to the larger screen displays, though there have been larger screen sizes for some years now. If it is specific to these modern devices I might wonder if Xara has hand-coded some magic based upon iPad/iPhone sizes and fallen behind the curve.
-
Re: new Iphone X and Xara
I will try to upload a new video of the ipad issue later on.

The issue is not with making a new variant. The problem comes from the code that xara has to change to accommodate the new iphones/tablets. It is the issue of fit within screen area when device is turn on its side and back and forth.

Rob you said in your comment above (IF)? If it will be fixed? This is essential for mobile users, how can I take this software seriously for running a business?

Because this is the Season of goodwill, not sour grapes.
I wish you, the staff at Xara and all TG members a very happy Christmas and New Year.
