PLEASE HELP!!! My Illustrator CS6 File won't open

I saved my large illustrator file {1.6g of all placed images} and when I tried to reopen it a minute later, a window popped up saying "Can't open the illustration. Could not complete the requested operation." I am running CS6 on Windows 7 64bit.

Can anyone please offer some advice as to how I can open the file?

well you could try rebooting your computer in case there is a memory leak hogging RAM in the system - worth a try
