I'm going to crack these things even if I go blind trying.
I'm about to give up, no I don't get the idea!
By default we are conditioned to focus on the text or image in front of us. Whether on a printed page or on a screen. And it is a hard habit to break.
Here's a link to a longer explanation of how this works and how you have to refocus your eyes to make the image work. http://www.eyetricks-3d-stereograms....rams_work.html
Look at the attached image of the two dots. Relax your eyes and your focus and see if you can merge the two dots into three. If you can see three dots then you have achieved the focus to see stereograms.
If not, don't worry about it. Life is short.
I've been making this images for over 25 years. I can see them with my eyes closed. :)
Thanks for the explanation Gary. I finally "saw" a stereogram!
Yay!!!Quote:

I'm sorry Gary went to the page with the explanation Looked at the one with the gramophone for over a half hour could not see it unless moused over to see it. I truthfully think there is something wrong with me, I really want to see maybe I am to literal I can't make your two dots turn into three either. It says that there are some people who just can't see it and I am beginning to think I am one of them.:-O
You gave it your best shot. It was not meant to be, perhaps.
Excellent! Took me a while before it popped!
Look at the first post and click on the image to enlarge it.
put your face so that it is about six to eight inches from the image and then stop trying to see anything just look in the direction of the image but do not try and focus. It may take a liitle while but eventually the image will pop at you and focus.
The secret really is to let your eyes relax and not focus. When you aren't trying to see something it will appear, if you try and focus you will stop anything from happening.
Have another go, but relax and don't be in a hurry.
Stereograms are a world wide conspiracy that started in 1838 with the sole purpose of driving me insane. I have an IQ with some numbers in it and I can tell you're all out to get me. Well it won't work, my tin foil hat will protect me.
Yeah, relax. It is not a contest and you will not be graded. It will happen or it won't.Quote:

Gary, thank you for your patience in explaining your 6-8" relax method. I finally cracked it; I now get all the depth to the stereograms that I have been missing.
My eyes are no longer crossed.
Which reminds me of the Daily Mirror's Perishers & Baby Grumpling's soft toy, Gladly. Gladly was his cross-eyed bear, a mondegreen of "Gladly, the cross I'd bear" hymnal lyrics.
You would have particularly liked the "Eyeballs in the Sky" crabs, Gary, with your fondness for eyeball avatars.
Acorn
Yes, with crossed eyes our stereograms go inward instead of outward Converging vs Diverging). My mom used to tell me about Gladly the cross-eyed bear when I was a young pup.
Ah! I'd forgotten about Boot & the Eyeballs in the Sky annual revisit. We named one of our dogs after him ;)
