This is really getting scary...!
Ok ... this is the 2nd time this happened. Once with the downloaded ver. And now again with the CD ver.
All of a sudden... out of nowhere I cannot open up a site I'm working on. And I get these two errors.... the first one I get..... but the second one just bumps me out of the program.
I've spent over a month developing this site, now I think I've lost it all. And yes, of course I have backups... 2, as a matter of fact. And I get the same with them also.
Any advice would be so appreciated....
I've done a repair of Xtreme... I've done a reinstall.... nada!
Thanks
Cliff
Re: This is really getting scary...!
Hi Cliff,
Yeh these can be annoying and frustrating - there's usually a good reason, though tracking it down can be difficult, especially since you can't open any of those files.
Try Xara's ExpandXar
Used to try and recover corrupted Xar files. Please view the readme.txt file for useage instructions.
If you have trouble - you're more than welcome to send me the file and I'll see what can be recovered.

For what it's worth Cliff, I was getting these error messages when building a site and in the end I did change the fonts to Verdana from the Impact bold and all was ok.

Thanks Sledger and sty........
Sledger your relaxed answer leads me to believe this can be fixed... I hope so... no.. I'm doin a little prayer here.
Anyway, I will give 'ExpandXar' a try and let you know.
thanks.

Re: This is really getting scary...!
Sledger... there's no instructions on how to use 'ExpandXar'.
When I run it I just a flash of a cmd screen, and gone.
??
thanks
Re: This is really getting scary...!
Syntax:
ExpandXar <input file> <output file>
<input file> file you are trying to recover
<output file> the file name you give the result
it will not run in windows itself, you need to run it in the command prompt window
you need to give full path names, so it is easier if the program and the input file are in the same folder, and you run it from there [in the command prompt]

Like this Cliff (I had mine on the desktop for the screen shot, but yours is fine where you had it - just note the syntax)

Re: This is really getting scary...!
Thanks all..... I found out what was wrong thanks to 'Web Designer'
Strange but 'Web Designer' opened up the file. And then proceeded to systematically start deleting item by item then trying in Xtreme.
I found the offending text. Don't ask me why a couple of lines of text caused the problem. There was nothing unusual about them.
And I have to say this though. I DON'T LIKE IT. This is the second time I'm dealing with this. I spent two years with Serif WebPlus and NEVER did I experience corrupt files. I think I'm gonna have continue site building with Serif.
Shame though, I really love the program... but man.... I'm just scared Sh*t that one day I'm just not gonna be able to fix something, then I'm dead in the water.
Thanks to all for the help.
Cliff

Clearly there was.
Cliff if you'd like to help be part of the solution, I would recommend sending Xara the file so they can see why it caused a problem.
If you aren't sure how, just send it to me and I'll pass it on.
