I'm using Designer Pro but this is a web question so posting here.
I've got this to work but feel there might be a better way. I put the code shown in a placeholder and separately uploaded the image via FTP outside of Xara. Any thoughts?

Sorry can't seem to delete 1st image and it was low res.
A link can be added to anything in the Xara design.
Download the image into your page with Import from web address: www.feel-good.today/downloads/anxietyrelief.jpg (N.B., do not include the https://).
Resize and position.
Select it and in Web Properties > Link > Link to web or email address, add https://www.feel-good.today/download...20Hypnosis.mp3.

If you do that, it opens a 2nd browser tab and plays it - I know you can then right-click and "save as" - but I'm trying to remove that step (believe it or not, not everyone knows that can be done!). i.er. I've done that with the rectangular button next to the image icon.

Thanks for trying - keep going :-)
Bottom line is I have a solution - but it's dirty as I have to remember to upload the image manually via FTP - (I'll have to a a "note to self" in the side of the file :-) ).
If you could even figure out how to avoid the image issue that would be good.

Thanks Egg ,that's kind of what I have right now, the problem is imbedding it in an icon or button. right now I have to upload the image to the folder separately.
Yes, I did do this a while back. That Acorns got a far better memory than mine ;)

I just tried putting the placeholder text on the 2nd image of a button i.e. on the mouseover layer, but that did not work - maybe that triggers an idea?

Thanks Acorn. Another method I found was changing the .htaccess file to include:

Tried it with my my icon then quickly tried your image on my page - both are still getting the broken image icon - tested in both chrome and edge. What I have not done is change my .htaccess file yet. But reading above felt that was a either do this or do that.Attachment 126906
Started from scratch and it's all working now. Not sure what I was doing wrong but with all the tests must have messed up somewhere. But working now.

Glad you sorted it. The .htaccess method is only another option, but after Acorns help you wont need it now.

so to the point:
How about an image that "triggers" a download (a PDF in my case, and as you all have so expertly explained) then re-directs you to another page?
Must be SUPER Simple but I'm stuck...
Wouldn't this direct download trigger some anti-malware programs? The idea of the save or open option gives the user the choice.
It isn't. You would have to revert to JavaScript to called the download and then open another window.Quote:

It's simple - or should I say "easy when you know how" - after all the struggle, doing it lots now. Thank you all... wanted to clarify purpose:
My brother teaches and coaches grief relief (in a faith based theme) so as an addon to his support info and videos he is giving the opportunity to:
(1) willingly register to a - news letter type of thing - then after that you get the download (for free).
So users will share their names and emails then get the download and be redirected to the website where(2) they can review and decide if they want to join the subscription videos.
that is the premise - was trying to avoid the "click here to download" if possible.
Like this? https://www.feel-good.today/findingg.../subscribe.htm This is simple to do, just add a web form to your page. This form uses HubSpot (all Free) it gathers the e-mail's in it's database for re-targeting and can send you an e-mail with a download link once you have provided your details.
Xara has some buyilt in forms but I've not used them.
