square photo grid with landscape and portrait pictures
So I'm trying to figure out how to create a square photo grid that has a mixture of landscape and portrait orientated (cropped in) pictures that when clicked will popup a larger version keeping the picture orientation and not just showing a larger version of the square.

I would build my own grid.
For each image, apply Image >Photo pop-up. Create a block of squares.
Place and size the image onto of one and scale and centre.
Finally, Soft-group the image to its underneath block.
Easy to re-order.

Thanks for the fast reply,
I don't really understand what you trying to explain, I'm on the 365 version so probably don't have some of the features you mention.

365 or 12 is the latest version.
Have a look at the Smart Photo Grids Insert > From Content Catalog > Components > Image Resources > Smart Photo Grids. (sheesh, that is a long path)
Each photo in the grid can be resized as you would like.

Everything is totally basic and not dependent on the Xara version. I cannot explain it any more simply and will not upload a solution as there is no learning in using someone else's approach.
All that happens is follow ups like "I wanted a size of 233.7px."; "I want a grid of 3 x 5 or 9 x 2 or ..."; "How do I have a border round the grid but not the photo".
Click on a picture.
Navigate to Web Properties > Image.
Tick the Photo pop-up box.
Use the Rectangle tool to create a background box.
Read the Help information about soft-grouping.
Follow my instructions in my first response.
