How do I change the domain name that appears in a browser when the site loads.
How do I change the domain name that appears in a browser when the site loads?
I have two domain names going to one web site, the old name and a new one. Currently the old name appears at the top, in the browser address line, even it you type in the new name. How can I change it so the new name appears regardless of which domain name the user types in?
Advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Janet,
Best way would be via the .htaccess file.
THIS might help

Or you could request your web hosting company to make the .com domain the one that serves up your website and redirect the co.uk one to the .com one.

Thanks for this. I'll try the second suggestion first and if that doesn't work I'll have a go at the first suggestion. Thanks very much for your help. The new domain name was added to the old one so that might be the answer. Much appreciated.

...or you could apply domain masking to the current domain.

How does Janet do this Koko?

Sorry, domain masking can be applied to forwarded domains. Masking allows you to put probably anything you want in the browser address bar.

Yes, OK. But HOW does a user do this? Can you link to or provide information on how this is accomplished.

I use GoDaddy. When I set a domain to forward, the option is there to add masking. So, within your registar's account, clicking on the domain name you own/manage should have the options to change settings, forwarding, DNS, etc.
