Photo borders

Hi folks,
Have several old historical photos that I would like to put a reasonable border around. Once scanned, some will accept a border, others don't - Says "Unable to apply the selected thumbnail's properties to the image."
Am I scanning them incorrectly?
Using PI 10se with Win XP (SP2)

Quick guess here, CK "image properties", make sure photo is "RGB True Color".
If not change it. Easy Palette border effects require true color.

Some of the old photos are in sepia. The object of the exercise is to scan them repair & and reprint them to A4 size. Sepia doesn't look so good so was scanning those as greyscale - hence no border available! Thanks again, my 76yo brain has learned once more!
